ABOUT THE ARTIST

Adam Schrader's artistic journey began in Egypt in 2014 with drawing classes, leading him to explore oil painting in 2015. His talent quickly earned him a spot in a group exhibition at Cairo’s Soma Gallery. Since 2022, he has been teaching oil painting at ART BOX in Senegal.

Adam’s work is driven by observation, translating his surroundings into visual narratives. During his three years in Senegal, he found unexpected inspiration in banana trees—symbols of resilience and timelessness. These trees, growing year-round, seemed indifferent to time, with new suckers sprouting from the earth as mature trees bore fruit and were then cut down.

The banana trees’ dislocation from change and seasonality came to represent Adam's own feelings about the passage of time in Senegal. Each day felt like the last, with routine marking the passing weeks. Yet, the banana trees stood tall and green, always growing fruit—never the same trees, yet always the same. This enduring presence inspired Adam’s collection "Growing Bananas," featuring these ever-present trees alongside portraits of his beloved cats, capturing the intersection of time, growth, and resilience.
