ABOUT THE ARTIST

Khalifa Mané (b. 1998, Casamance, Senegal) is a visual artist living and working in Nguekhokh, Senegal. Initially trained under French painter Le Guenne, he later rejected formal academia, leaving Dakar’s École des Beaux-Arts after a year to pursue an independent artistic path. His work is deeply engaged with sociopolitical issues, reflecting the frustrations and aspirations of his generation.

Mané’s art took a revolutionary turn following the 2021 protests in Senegal. His powerful series Revolt and Carton Rouge critique corruption, youth disenfranchisement, and systemic oppression. Integrating mixed media techniques, including newspaper collages, he creates striking compositions that blend personal introspection with collective resistance. His figures often express defiance, despair, and the urgent demand for change.

His work has been exhibited at Galerie Mémoires Africaines, the Dakar Biennale Off, Galerie Le Cube, and internationally in Geneva and Réunion. In 2024, he participated in a residency at the Blachère Foundation.

A nonconformist, Mané challenges the status quo, echoing Nina Simone’s words: “An artist’s duty is to reflect the times.” His art is both a mirror and a call to action, capturing the struggles and hopes of a new African generation demanding transformation
