Demba LY (b. 1996, Senegal) is a self-taught artist.

Raised in Mbao, a suburb of Dakar, he discovered his love for drawing early but considered it just a hobby alongside football. After earning his baccalaureate in 2014, he began exploring his artistic potential, teaching himself through online resources and studying renowned illustrators, painters, and sculptors.

Demba’s journey started with hyperrealistic pencil drawings before evolving into a contemporary style—simplified in technique yet rich in symbolism and composition. Over the years, he has gained recognition in the art scene, participating in exhibitions such as the "Off" of the Dakar Biennale (2022), CanAfrica, Teach for Senegal, and Voyage Afro Pop at Boma Lifestyle Hotel.

In June 2024, his artwork "Watt Gaal," acquired by Woodside Energy, will be featured on the first oil extraction samples from the Sangomar oil field in Senegal.

Through various artistic projects, Demba has attracted media attention and is now considered one of Senegal’s promising young talents. His work continues to evolve, blending storytelling, symbolism, and refined aesthetics, positioning him as an emerging figure in contemporary African art.
